Fake Viagra Found in Legal Australian Pharmacy

It was reported on June 24, 2010 that fake Viagra may have made it into legal Australian pharmacy chains. How this happened is what the medical authorities are now trying to figure out. This claim is further being investigated.

More of the Story

The scam was first attempted in the UK, as reported by UKmedix. In this case it was dealt with very fast by all major ED drug companies (Pfizer the maker of Viagra, Eli Lilly the make of Cialis, and Bayer the maker of Levitra).

This case in the UK was a cause for implementing stricter security measures. More routine checks were administered, for example.

However, recently the case in Australia became known as well by the Therapeutic Goods Association of Australia. The good news is that no one was hurt or killed, which could have been the case in other situations.

How Does this Happen?

It takes more than just the average criminal to pull this one off. This is part of what makes it hard to guarantee that this “little blue pill” you see is not an imposter.

Usually a situation like this happens as a result of not knowing enough about the supply source. Pfizer is the company who makes the true Viagra. This is what should be found when seeking a source.

The criminals in charge of producing this fake supply of Viagra package it with such careful replication of the original packaging that it would be hard to tell. The pharmacy may have even thought it really was Viagra just by looking at the package.

Conclusion

The fake Viagra found is of course grounds for further investigation, which the Australian government has determined is necessary. Further action is yet to be taken to figure out who, what, where, when and why of this entire operation.

The why may be easy enough to figure out at least. It was mainly a scam to make money most likely as often happens in the case of producing counterfeit drugs. However, the severity of this problem is not yet determined, because as mentioned earlier no one was ill. No one died either.

A medication was forged but it might be a sugar pill of some sort that does no good at all. Again, it is a way of making ill gotten gains and is not necessarily meant to hurt anyone-at least not physically this time supposedly.

However, the people producing these kinds of fake Viagra pills are also the type that may not stop at anything. Therefore, be careful.
